Every day is a reason to be celebration, and the 20th of April is no different! From language preservation to social movements the day is filled with special observances that are resonant across the globe. In this blog we’ll discuss the national and international holidays observed on April 20th as well as their history and why they’re important. UN Chinese Language Day

The most well-known International Day on April 20 is UN Chinese Language Day. It was established through the United Nations in 2010, the purpose of this celebration is to:

While it is not an official day of the year, April 20 (or 4/20) is widely recognized as Cannabis Culture Day. The expression “420” originated in California in the 1970s. It has developed into a worldwide recognition of the cannabis industry and their culture influence.

The most important themes for the day include:

  • Advocates for the legalization of cannabis
  • Peaceful demonstrations and public events
  • Recognizing recreational and medicinal cannabis usage
