Even though July 9 is not recognized as a day by the United Nations, it is certainly an important date because so many countries celebrate things like culture, history, and independence on this day. Let’s find out more about it.

Argentina Independence Day

July 9 marks important historic events for Argentina because it is where they celebrate Argentine Independence Day.

On that date back in 1816, Argentina separated from Spain and signed the declaration of independence in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán.

Now, Argentinians remember this date with parades all over the country, ceremonies, family gatherings and flag decorations to celebrate their struggle and the joy of having gained freedom.

South Sudan Independence Day

In 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan and became the world’s latest country. The people of South Sudan enjoy celebrating with some performing traditional dances or partaking in cultural events.

This unique holiday is also used to reflect on the country’s movement towards attaining peace and development.

Nunavut Day in Canada

Nunavut Day is celebrated on July 9 in the northern territory of Canada known as Nunavut.

This commemorates the passing of the Nunavut Act in 1993 which created Nunavut a separate territory in 1999.

Nunavut Day celebrates the Inuit culture, from their folklore and history to their self-governance. The Inuit festivities include traditional songs, games, and community feasts.
