World Book & Copyright Day Matters More Than Ever in Today’s

World Book and Copyright Day occurs annually on the 23rd of April..
This holiday is dedicated to books and reading, authors and publishers.
Additionally, it protects the rights of creators and writers.

UNESCO was the first worldwide phenomenon during the year 1995.
The idea was simple: promote reading and respect for copyrights.
They are much more than pages. They can be effective tools for learning.

UNESCO selected April 23 as an explanation.
It is the anniversary of the deaths of three writers who are famous:
William ShakespeareMiguel de Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
This day is a celebration of both literature and language.

Reading books can open our minds.
They teach us lessons that we do not learn in school.
Reading can help us expand, dream, and connect with other people.

This day encourages us to read more and investigate new concepts.
It also aids us in understanding why copyright is important.
Writers dedicate time and energy to write stories that are unique.
Copyright helps protect their hard-earned work from being taken.

Each every year UNESCO designates an area as World Book Capital.
The city is a leader in reading campaigns across the globe.
In 2025, Rio de Janeiro carries this honor.

Copyright is a kind of security net for writers.
They have legal rights to their work.
Nobody is allowed to copy or distribute their books without their permission.

This helps writers earn income from their work.
If authors feel safe and secure, they write more books.
Therefore, copyright laws promote the development of creativity and also education.

Because of copyright law, we have access to original music, books and artwork.
Without it numerous creators would stop sharing their talents.

How Schools and Libraries Can Join the Celebration

Schools can host reading sessions with books.
Teachers may request students to bring their most loved books.
Together, they read aloud and discuss stories.

Libraries may host events or drive to collect books.
Simple actions can bring joy to reading.
They also educate students on how copyright is important.

Many schools also have writing competitions.
This can help kids to become more confident writers.

It is possible to participate in this day even at home.
Write about your favorite book via social networks.
Make use of hashtags such as hashtag #WorldBookDay as well as use the hashtag #CopyrightMatters.

Follow events on the web organized by UNESCO and other book lovers.
A lot of authors live to read their chapters from their books.
You can also post your thoughts in a brief review of a novel you’ve enjoyed.

World Book and Copyright Day is more than just a day off.
It’s a reminder for us to read and share ideas.
Books are a source of power. Copyright safeguards that power.
